Normally I wouldn’t use my monthly Prime borrow on a novelette, but as I have loved every installment in the Markham Hall series and really didn’t have the time to read a full-length novel, I “splurged” and borrowed The Reclaiming of Ivy Leavold. First thing you should know is that you absolutely should not read this book without reading the previous three installments. In order to get the full effect of this novelette and appreciate just how much story Ms. Simone has managed to put into 36 pages, you need to know who Ivy and Julian are and what they have overcome to get to this point. So if you haven’t read books one through three, stop now and rectify that oversight.

For fans of the series, The Reclaiming of Ivy Leavold is an absolute must-read as it is exactly what the title suggests. Picking up after the birth of their child, we find that Ivy has thrown herself fully into motherhood…to the point of losing the wildcat that Julian loved so much. Acting as a new father grateful to the mother of his child rather than as the Mr. Markham who held us enthralled over the course of the series, Julian is handling Ivy with kid gloves. This seems to be making the situation worse as the divide between them grows with each day and it was disturbing to witness two people who have been so strong, assertive, and self-assured continue to flounder. Because of that, seeing Mr. Markham emerge and take control of Ivy was both a relief and reading aphrodisiac. Witnessing Mr. Markham coax his wildcat back out and riling her up to the point that I half expected her to knock him down and take her pleasure from him was perfection for this couple. Simone did an excellent job in keeping her characters true to themselves…once they found themselves again and I loved it. I plan to buy The Markham Hall Series Bundle as soon as I have time to read it in its entirety so that I can experience the journey through Markham Hall again.

A deeply erotic love story

Couldn't put these books down....not until I'd devoured every word to the very last. Intense shades of light and dark that sent me through every emotion; laughter, tears, anguish, dread, anger, rage, lust and longing.....and finally love. Yes, I fell in love with Ivy, Julian, and Silas of course. Thankyou Sierra Simone. Please write more....more of everything, more of this

Ivy Leavold has just lost her brother and is destitute. This is how she ends up at Markham Hall, home of her deceased cousin's widower. He is all the family she thinks she has left. With no other options except to go to work as a Governess, she accepts his protection.

Those of you who have read Jane Eyre will be just at home with this book, with one tiny, itsy-bitsy difference... This book is Erotica with a superb plotline.

Julian Markham is the most gorgeous creature Ivy has ever seen. He is dominant, virile and full of power oozing out of every pore. Having just lost his wife a month before, he is intractable at times and very moody. Or so Ivy thought. He is a man of mystery, secrets, and lustful desires like you have never imagined before. He has been married twice already and both wives ended up dead within a short time of marrying him. Are we dealing with a "blue-beard" character here?

Ivy is so independent she will not let her situation cage her like a bird. She must find out why her cousin dies such an untimely death. She must also find out more about Julian. She is like a moth to the fire. The attraction is so strong... well, be prepared to hang a "Do Not Disturb" sign around your neck. You will not want to put this series down!

Variant Haemoglobins – A Guide to Identification is based on the premise that any single diagnostic technique offers only a very provisional identification of a variant haemoglobin. In routine diagnostic practice two techniques are needed as a minimum, with the results being interpreted in the light of the clinical details, blood count, blood film and ethnic origin. This book covers 150 normal and variant haemoglobins that have been studied and carefully documented.

Variant Haemoglobins has four introductory chapters followed by an invaluable atlas. The introductory chapters cover

• the genetics of haemoglobin synthesis
• the principles of tests employed for identification
• common haemoglobins of major clinical or diagnostic importance
• thalassaemias and related conditions

The atlas section comprises 170 full colour pages in which each variant haemoglobin or combination of haemoglobins is illustrated by cellulose acetate electrophoresis at alkaline pH, agarose gel electrophoresis at acid pH, isoelectric focusing and one or more HPLC traces. For ease of reference, the atlas pages are arranged according to the retention time of each haemoglobin on HPLC, this becoming increasingly the primary technique employed in haemoglobin identification.

Bringing a mix of necessary scientific expertise and clinical knowledge, each author has more than 30 years experience in the diagnosis of variant haemoglobins.

Amazing!! Life Changing Book FOR ME!

I read this book maybe 10 yrs ago in Spanish---and even though I was a Christian, it made even more of a reality the futility of life and the importance of seeking and fearing/respecting God as "there's nothing new under the sun". This book dissected the book of Eclesiastes
written by King Solomon--by the way...Per the Bible He had a GIFT of wisdom and like not one else. I plan to get 3 copies of this book for my children who are still 6-10 as I
believe they need to understand clearly about the respect/fear of God, working hard and sharing life and substance with those they love. Good non-threatening way to introduce the "facts of life" and the truth of God's reality to intellectual people as they will not be able to "rationalize" without being dishonest or "spin" the "vanity of life" and truth of the Word of God. I give this book a perfect 10!

What ROCKED:

I loved how Al Daltrey explored each element of the title for each character. Billie found Pleasure after loss, Jasmin found it during an intense situation in a jail, and Vicky briefly found it in anger.

Pain was evident for Billie during her grief cycle. Jasmin had secrets. And secrets are usually to hide from something that can hurt you. Vicky’s marriage was not where she wanted it to be.

Each of the girls had Purpose. Billie showed us what unconditional love is. Jasmin shows us that it is ok to be a sexual being and still be great at your job, even if the two mixed at times. Vicky shows us the the importance of communication in a relationship and how quickly it deteriorates when not nurtured.

I also loved that I was able to take away what each girl stood for in the first part. For me, Billie was Pleasure. Jasmin was Purpose. And Vicky was Pain. The subtitle, Pleasure, applies to all but I have my reasons why each represented what they did.

What didn’t ROCK:
I was NOT prepared for the ending. I won’t say what happened or why, but that is what I didn’t like.

Overall:

I am completely intrigued to see where this trilogy end up. It was a completely different style from what trilogies have become. Each chapter a new look into one of the three friends. Al can write a kinky story, but this is proof he can write more than that. Thinking about stories you read days later is usually a good sign that the next two installments will be just as deep, connecting, and emotional. The friendships, love, and the ability for these strong women to stand strong, has me itching for book 2.

I took a chance... and I'm glad I did.

Truth be told, my go to genre is usually New Adult. I don't normally pick up books in the Erotica category. I find that sometimes you get a lot of sex, without a lot of emotion or character development. That changed when I read Pleasure, Pain or Purpose by Al Daltrey.

This is the story of three friends navigating through life. Billie has lost the love of her life, Vicky learns secrets about her husband and Jasmin is put into a situation that could cost her a career and so much more. You get snapshots of life for all 3 women, in alternating chapters from their point of view. Although each woman goes through very different scenarios, you can't help but appreciate the bond they have.

Whenever I see a synopsis caution of kinky sex, I wonder if that's a warning that the scenes that don't contain sex will fall flat. I worry that the story is just filler and the main part of the story is... well... the kinky sex. That is NOT the case here. Sure, it contains BDSM but the story holds up on its own. We are given background on each character setting each scene up to weave 3 separate stories together. Each story is different, yet each working part contributes in a way that holds your attention until the very end.

This is part of a series. It does end in a cliffhanger. You are left with unanswered questions. But does that really matter? It gives the story time to sink in as well as gives you something to look forward to.

This book covers the lives of three best friends. Biljana Stevens - better known to her friends as Billie - is still suffering from the loss of her lover and isn’t sure she’s going ever get over it. Jasmin Stallworth is in the Special Investigations department and loves her job as a police officer. Vicky Knox is the only friend who is married and she works in the medical research field and is mostly happy with her life -- outside of the bedroom at least.

This is my first book by Mr Daltrey and I loved his writing style. I am usually a fan of the first person point of view, but in this third person novel I was able to gain a better understanding of all the friends and what they were really thinking at all times and get a better grasp on the situations. I felt the emotions in this book and enjoyed reading about their feelings and their emotions rather than just about their bedroom life.

Billie is stuck in the past with David, her lover who died in a freak work accident. She can’t get over the fact that she has always felt like she was his and that they were to spend the rest of their lives together fighting the world together. She doesn’t know how to cope alone...or she doesn’t think she does anyway.

Jasmin puts herself in a crazy-ass situation and finds herself being submissive to a criminal guilty of killing cops. She finds that she is stimulated by his control over her and they definitely have some hot and heavy scenes.

Vicky thinks she needs to heat things up in the bedroom with her husband and finds herself in a predicament she doesn’t know what to do with.

I loved that the three friends relied so heavily on each other and found solace in their friendship...even when they had a fight, they managed to make up. I wish I had a group of girlfriends like them!!

Mr Daltrey did a great job of putting me into this story and his imagination made my imagination go crazy, too. I can’t wait to read the other two books in the series, Pain & Purpose, and I highly recommend that you try this one, too.
