Good organization plan for Outlook users
By S. Jackson
I'm not big into GTD or anything else. However, I was looking for something to help me get control of my inbox. I was going to try the "Inbox Zero" method, but found that I need something a little more in-depth and systematic for my work email.
Other than reading about “Inbox Zero” I haven’t read much of anything on organizing email, so I don’t have much to really compare it to. I should also note that I don’t use the GTD method, or anything else, for organizing tasks.
With that said, I found that this book delivered a plan to use Outlook to accomplish exactly what I was look to do: reduce inbox and organize tasks.
The plan in this book worked out great on a number of levels for me. The book didn't just focus on folder organization and use, but approached organization as a workflow to be managed across various tools found in Outlook. It also reintroduced me to features of Outlook I had previous dismissed, such as task usage, and demonstrated their value in an over plan to organize email and tasks.
Aside from the organizational plan, I really like the way the book was put together. Instead of going through chapter after chapter to get the big picture how everything fits together, the book starts off with a quick start guide, so you can start implementing the method straight out of the gate. It actual made me more interested in reading the rest of the book, as oppose to being give portions of the method over hundreds of pages. Great job on the author or editors part for structuring the book like that.
While skeptical at first, and and hesitant about getting pulled into some over-organizational method, this book really payed off for me. It took me a 2-3 weeks before I was finally able to get my inbox under control and move into using tasks. But the method outlined in this book worked for me.

A pamphlet bloated to book size
By Twark Main
I'm about a third of the way through the book and suspect that Linenberger has a good story to tell but it's a novella at worst, and at best a short story. There's not enough material here to justify a full book, so Linenberger pads it out by repeating the same information over and over, and worse, hard-selling the reader on how great the book's going to be. He seems to forget that, as readers, we've already BOUGHT the book. It's time to can the sales pitch and start delivering on the promise.
It's not that there's no valuable information there, I don't think. I'm sure I'll learn something from the book, probably more than enough to justify the purchase price. But I resent having my time wasted with all the fluff.

Effective foundational approach to workload management
By DustyWork
The good:
1) Offers pragmatic approaches to workload management in a comprehensive system. By the time you have reached the back cover you have an entire approach integrated into Outlook.
2) Recommended for those looking for an approach or would like to refine your existing approach. Even if you are happy with your current workload management system, I would recommend skimming the book for additional tips/tricks to add to your arsenal
3) There has been some discussion about how this is best suited for novice-level users. As noted above, all levels of expertise will benefit. Perhaps the only group that may not get value out of this book would be expert VBA developers who can essentially craft their own workload management system, and aren't confined to the off-the-shelf capabilities
3a) I've tried developing custom forms and a corresponding VBA solution, and my recommendation is that unless your REALLY love VBA or are a professional developer, it is not worth the time/effort involved given the learning curve that must be overcome. As such, this book offers the 80% solution with a fraction of the effort
Areas which could be improved:
1) This will not be your "end all" solution for workload management. A lot of what is required is trial and error on your part, and seeking out other information sources (e.g., blogs, Getting Things Done by David Allen, etc.) to tailor your approach as you identify specific needs that the author does not address here
2) The author is overly verbose. This book could easily be 50 pages, and I still would be willing to pay the same price for it. I recommend you skip all the narrative and focus on the specific actions required for each chapter. For future editions, I would like to see workflows and checklists that will allow readers to get going in 30m or less and use the rest of the book for a reference as needed. For the veteran self-help reader, we just want the bottom line because we understand that all the supporting narrative is of little consequence if the approach is not clear and easy to implement.
3) The layout of the book is confusing. You will get frustrated quickly if you attempt to read through the book in a linear fashion. References to different Outlook versions as well as Mac versions simply adds extra pages for the reader to wade through in order to pick-up on the author's train of thought
Overall:
I recommend the book for those looking to improve their workload management approach. My advice is to start executing immediately because experience has shown that even the best system will fail if it isn't implemented quickly and iteratively improved.
