A Basic Introduction to Machine Learning

This book claims to be an overview of artificial intelligence, but it’s not; it’s an overview of machine learning. It’s true that machine learning is a hot topic within AI just now, but it's hardly taken over the field, nor has it rendered all other methods obsolete. But, if you just want an informal introduction to the basic forms of machine learning, it's short and easy to read. The rubber never quite meets the road, but if all you need is the basic concepts, it's not a bad start.

It does, however, contain errors that really should have been caught prior to publication. In addition to the errors mentioned by another reviewer, the references to equations 10.2 through 10.4 are wrong, and the description of the logistic function shown in Figure 10.3 doesn’t match the function shown. The notation specifies the curve as going from 0 to , but it is drawn from 1 to 0, which is backward from what the author intended. Also, the curve is described in the text as a logit function, which the author seems to confuse with the logistic. They both has S shapes, but they are very different things with different roles to play in terms of how they bound their values. To put it graphically, the S of a logit is horizontal, with the tails extending up and down, not vertical with tails to the left and right as shown in the figure.

A good primer for AI

I've wanted to better understand artificial intelligence for a long time. This book has opened the door for me. It requires a little mathematical aptitude, but little else, as the author starts with basic concepts and gradually builds on them. I like the examples and illustrations. They helped me digest and build my understanding one step at a time.

I've been in contact with the author and found out that, with self-publishing, you can pretty immediately turn around reader feedback and make incremental improvements to the book. Since I bought the book last month, a number of improvements have already been made.

Mainly numerical optimization methods

Although it does talk the traveling salesman problem and knapsack problems mostly it talks about curve fitting and maximization, while these are important to know about in some circumstances, I'm not sure I call them AI.

Great book!

Woozers! I had no idea what was going wrong in my relationships until now! This book highlighted the issues with jealousy and insecurity in a way that is easy to comprehend. I would recommend this book to anyone having jealousy issues with their partner and has no clue why. It sheds light on the connection between jealousy and insecurity and the differences between the way men and women view them. Totally worth the buy!

Root of Jealousy

This book really made me understand the root of some of mine and others bevaiours. Jealousy is not just what everbody things, it is buit upon our insicurities. In fact, the author also gets through all the manifestation of insicurity that we can find in the person we are in love with, things that in my opinion make a relationship become toxic on the long run. The book does also include tips on how to overcome the jealousy symptom and I found them really useful. Recommended book.

Talks about personal experience too much, particularly the author's relationship with her husband, that the book centers on that which makes it boring. Why not tell a story then discuss after. It is helpful though in a way that it helps the reader understand more about insecurities but it becomes boring later on.

It comes with easy to follow exercises and activities. When the kids get a little older - early teens, you can try If I'd Only Known... by Edee Wilcox. It's a fictional, yet realistic story about a teenager's struggle with acceptance, sex, and Christian values. It also includes discussion questions that can be used in group settings or between parents and their teens.

This is an excellent book for teaching sunday school.Easy to follow guide. We had a sunday school teacher who had never taught before and her first lesson was a success for her and the students. I personally like to give the children interactive games and this book doesnt seem to have that. It does however, have crafts, games, puzzles and provides children with an opportunity to identify with the word of God. our teachers all have different styles of teaching and we all make use of this book.

Ficht Injection Not Covered

I purchased this book specifically to find out about the much maligned FICHT fuel injection system on my Johnson outboard. The FICHT system has had many recalls and I wanted to check up on it. Even though the cover shows a picture of a FICHT outboard and the year span of the book covers FICHT engines, I found no information. Whats up with that?
