ONE OF LOUISE HAY'S BEST CD'S EVER! IT IS SO SOOTHING!

Since 1988, I have listened to Louise Hay and bought her books. This particular CD is one of Louise Hay's best work ever! This is a short CD only about 30 minutes (great to listen to in the morning before starting the day or on a break at work). This is a very soothing CD The sound quality is excellent and the message truly inspired me to think about:

1) How to love yourself and how to accept yourself. (Part One)

2) How to forgive yourself and others. (Part Two)

This CD I will listen to often because it has caused me to realize just how important it is to love yourself and forgive yourself for past mistakes and to forgive others. It it true freedom to do thse things! I highly recommend this to anyone in need of making a positive change to your life! It really works!

This CD is apt to move you !!!

I was at a group Dec 11 where this CD was used. When done and the lights raised at least half present had tears in thier eyes. It is a powerful excercise in letting go, forgiving the past and meeting the future. Louise Hays CD's and tapes have been helping people for almost two decades. They are the best of the best. If you can buy only one, start with " You can heal your life" ( The book that made her famous and helped millions.) Most likely if you are like the rest of us, you will soon therafter want to own her CD's and tapes. Don't hesitate to buy her products. You are worth it!

Groundbreaking work in the discipline of slavery

Hudson has addressed several key questions in an effort to expand on our knowledge of the life of the American slave outside of the daily brutalities that sometimes overshadow understanding of microcosmic economic conditions, family life, and personal property. It is not that Hudson dismisses the horrors of slavery, but rather he expands on the story of the "humanity, endeavor and creativity of the enslaved" (p. xiii). To Have and to Hold is a fundamental work for the study of American slavery; a backbone on which all further study of slavery will build and be judged against.

Good Stories + lots of them

This book was really fun to read -- the stories seem to flow pretty well one to another. They are arranged chronologically, and paint a vivid picture of the whole war for us who weren't there. Since each story has a different perspective and author, you get a well rounded taste of the heroes and horrors that came from the great clash of the 20th century. Best Little Stories of World War II is a wonderful choice for anyone interested in history or in WWII.

A Few Gems...but Overall Disappointment

"Best Little Stories From WWII" is somewhat of a misleading title. While the layout of the text is admirable...numerous short stories that can be read at leisure...the content of the majority of the stories is bland and unmoving. While a few of the stories are worthy of great praise, I found too many boring stories about the world's naval forces during the time period. After reading such great books from authors like Cornelius Ryan, Stephen Ambrose and Charles Marshall, I find that overall this book is missing much by comparison. The only reedeming quality this book has for me is that of a coffee table decoration.

Light Reading at Its Best

This is a collection of 101 obscure stories (vignettes) from World War II, mostly anecdotal, human interest stories combed from a variety of sources. They cover the full gamut of the war -- all theaters, all mediums. One lesson to be drawn is that people will be people no matter what their circumstances. An easy, entertaining read. With each story standing alone, it's an excellent book for casual reading.

Funny book.

I bought this book in honor of some vegetarian friends and relatives. Everyone will enjoy it, even if you are a confirmed meat eater. It would be a great gift for Christmas or birthdays. It is lighthearted and vegetarians will love it.

I bought this book because my husband is a vegetarian and I am a meat eater. This book is funny even for a meateater to read. I understand some of my husband's concerns and humor about meateaters vs vegetarians. I ate tofu tonite for dinner. Will there be a sequel?

Very funny and clever book! I loved the vegetarian zodiac section and how to socialize as a vegan. Too funny. I really died reading the question and answer section for new vegetarians...Lol! Then with the "psychic " interviewing the dead vegans , I thought I would pee my pants. Great job! I needed this.

Excellent general UNIX reference

This was the textbook for a "UNIX with Shell Programming" course I took in college and I found it very useful and informative for that course. I've also referenced it a number of times since completing that course, particularly for shell programming basics. It offers a great overview of primary subjects anyone working with UNIX or UNIX-like operating systems should know. I don't know about it being a "complete" reference, as that would probably be impossible for any single book to accomplish. However, this book is still a great reference to have on hand for a first look at a topic, although you may have to do further research or reading elsewhere if you want to really dig into minute details on a particular subject, which is the only reason I didn't give it a fifth star.

very reliable

I sure hope you don't intend to read this cover to cover. It functions best as a reliable and comprehensive reference to unix. For both system administrators and programmers. Yes, if you are the latter, you still have to deal with the operating system, even if you hide inside a programming language most of the time.

The various unix shells are evenhandedly described. The Bourne shell. The c shell. Korn shell. Try not to get into arguments with unix fans over the choice of shell. It is better to regard these as equivalent in functionality, with only minor differences not worth arguing about.

As the book explains, there are several unix variants. But the coverage spans all the major types. You can also use the book profitably if you have a linux machine. Most of the linux commands are deliberately mimicking unix equivalents.

I really liked this book. I used it for a UNIX class, and then kept it because it was so useful. It is laid out in a nice, usable way, and presents the material in a beginner-to-intermediate way without watering down the information.

No escape, no quarter given to yourself.

As a zen practitioner, rather than a devote Christian, (no they are not mutually exclusive but rather a leaning in a direction) I was moved and changed by this book. Yes it is difficult language, and Kierkegaard has the discipline or a logician. So I read it slowly. It helped me understand more fully the Three Pure Precepts of Mahayana practice; Embrace the Good, Avoid All Evil, and Purify the Mind. Kierkegaard calls up two Guides, one leading us towards Good and the other away from Evil. Purify the Heart or the Mind? Not an important distinction if you look at both in depth.

He talks of the miracle of the Ultimate in powerful language "“Now the unspeakable is like the murmuring of a brook. If you go buried in your own thoughts, if you are busy, then you do not notice it at all in passing. You are not aware that this murmuring exists.But if you stand still, then you discover it. And if you have discovered it, then you must stand still. And when you stand still, then it persuades you. And when it has persuaded you, then you must stoop and listen attentively to it. And when you have stooped to listen to it, then it captures you. And when it has
captured you, then you cannot break away from it, then you are overpowered. Infatuated, you sink down at its side. At each moment it is as if in the next moment it must offer an explanation.But the brook goes on murmuring, and the wanderer at its side grows older. "

Almost anything written by Soren Kierkegaard is worth reading. On the other hand, what with the pseudonyms and books "discovered" in abandoned desk drawers, and the like, it is often a challenge to figure out where Kierkegaard is speaking, or where Kierkegaard is using a character ironically. Bear in mind that this was a profoundly, if eccentricity religious philosopher. That should serve as a starting point in your search, anyway.
